Laser cavity treatment is a modern approach to removing tooth decay using the Fotona LightWalker® Er:YAG (Erbium) dental laser instead of traditional dental drills.
This technology uses highly controlled laser energy to precisely remove decayed tooth structure while preserving as much healthy enamel and dentin as possible. Because the laser targets only the damaged structure, treatment can be more conservative and comfortable for patients.
In many cases, laser cavity treatment produces less vibration, less heat, and less pressure compared to traditional drilling. As a result, some patients may experience reduced discomfort and may require little or no anesthesia, depending on the depth of the cavity.
How the Fotona Laser Treats Cavities
The laser wavelength is specifically designed to interact with water molecules present in tooth structure. When the laser energy is applied to decayed areas of the tooth, it gently breaks apart the infected tissue and removes it with high precision.
At the same time, the laser can help disinfect the cavity preparation, reducing bacteria before the tooth is restored with a filling.
